The Essex School Games supports the wider development of young people and we want schools to position this as a key component of their offer.
- Physical Development: Being active for at least 60 minutes a day supports young people to have immediate and long-term health benefits.
- Personal Development: The School Games has a positive impact on young people’s personal development, such as developing their leadership skills and resilience.
- Emotional Development: The School Games improves young people’s self-esteem, reduces stress, supports their mental wellbeing and builds their resilience.
- Social Development: The School Games provides a sense of belonging, enabling young people to develop their teamwork, communication, empathy and respect for others.
Instilling the School Games values of passion, self-belief, respect, honesty, determination, teamwork and eco-friendly supports schools to achieve their broader whole school objectives.
The Essex Invincible School Games (previously Essex Special School Games)
The games are designed by the Multi-School Council, born out of a need and want from young people with special needs and disabilities to be offered the chance to compete against others and represent their school. The council was initiated by the children to break down perceptions around special needs and mental health difficulties, providing young people an opportunity to improve their confidence and develop personal and social skills alongside promoting values like democracy and tolerance. The Special School Games offer a fantastic opportunity for these young people to get involved in physical activity in a way that best suits them and their needs.
How to Get Involved
The School Games removes barriers and improves access for those young people facing inequalities and in greatest need. These offers are coordinated on a geographical basis through the local School Games Organiser and supported across the county by Active Essex. The offer across Essex is fully inclusive and provides opportunities for all schools and pupils in Greater Essex to take part. To register your school visit the School Games website.
