Communities are the backbone of our society and placing them at the heart of our initiatives is crucial for fostering resilience, inclusivity, and wellbeing. This session will explore how we can empower communities, build strong relationships, and create environments where everyone can thrive.

As an Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) thought leader, Cormac Russell will outline the philosophy behind this strength-based approach, whilst local organisations and individuals from Basildon will share deep insights into how they’re utilising ABCD to shape their own journey in Essex and at a hyper local level.

Objectives:

  1. Understand the Importance of Community: Highlight the role of communities in fostering resilience, inclusivity, and wellbeing.
  2. Explore Asset-Based Community Development: Learn about ABCD and how it can be used to empower communities.
  3. Share Real-World Experiences: Hear from local organisations about their successes, challenges, and strategies for community engagement.
  4. Create Thriving Environments: Discuss the importance of building strong relationships within communities, how to foster collaboration and create environments where everyone can thrive.

Synopsis of the series

Welcome to the Creating the Conditions series, a brand-new collection of online seminars hosted by Active Essex. This series marks the beginning of our ongoing commitment to sharing learning in various formats, with this initial online series delving into the communities we serve, the systems we navigate, and the relationships we build, all with the ambition of fostering thriving communities and addressing long-standing inequalities. This series will form part of a bigger learning offer that will span across 2025, and will look to include further seminars, workshops and face to face events.

Throughout this series, we will share key learnings and insights from our journey with the Essex Local Delivery Pilot, engaging in conversations with experts who continue to inspire and guide us. Each session is designed to be interactive, engaging, and thought-provoking. The learning journey we hope to take you on will be led by experts in their field, providing you with insight from a national level, as well as the successes, learnings, and challenges taking place in our county and at a local level.
