International Men’s Day 2023

Active Essex

This international men’s day, there is a focus on the positive value that men bring to the world, communities, and their families. At Active Essex we get to witness the amazing work dedicated Essex men carry out across the county to get people active whether that be running a local club or maintaining the grounds at a venue.

Raising awareness of men’s well-being is an essential part of the work Active Essex do as we want to address how important physical activity is for looking after both body and mind. Those that help others find their active are extremely important for the community and can offer support for other men through clubs and groups.

Zero Male Suicide is also being brought to the forefront this International Men’s Day to strive to stop male suicide and men’s groups can be a catalyst for encouraging important conversations and can offer those struggling with a network of support that they may not have access to. Physical activity can therefore be a lifeline for those who may be struggling with mental health. At Active Essex we strive to support groups like this such as Walk and Talk 4 men, MATES FC and The Over 50s Black Men Forum. These groups provide activities for men that can enhance their routine by increasing their activity levels and boosting self esteem and confidence through socialising.

International Men’s Day falling in November also means Movember and this year it’s all about raising funds for men’s health by running or walking 60km. This can be in one hit or over the course of the month. By The Order of Mo is a way we can enhance mental wellbeing by moving daily and also remembering the 60 men lost to suicide globally, every hour.

Starting conversations and taking part in activity can also take place in your own home, so why not take some time out of your day to go for a walk with your son, dad, uncle or brother to get some fresh air and increase movement.

This International Men’s Day, take some time to thank those in your life who have had a positive impact on your own physical activity journey or that of your communities as saying thank you and recognising their hard work could make their day.
