64 year old Ian Law is living with high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes. Ian didn’t want to control his conditions with medication and instead wanted to try diet and physical activity.
Ian said: “Whilst waiting to go in to see my GP, I saw a poster on the surgery wall about men’s health and wellbeing and a Walking Football group in Epping Forest.” Ian used to be an avid sportsmen and kept active through football and ski instructing. After heading down to watch one of the Walking Football sessions, he realised it would be something he could join in with.
Six months in, Ian has played every week and competed in a number of charity games. Ian said: “Everyone who takes part are of different ages and abilities and enjoy taking part in sociable physical activity. Since March, I have lost 1 1/2 stone and my cholesterol is at an all time low. I feel better in myself physically and mentally and feel as though I have a purpose back.”
