Be Festive and Find Your Active!

Active Essex

As we near the end of 2023, it’s important to make sure we celebrate everything we’ve achieved this year. As well as making the most of the holiday time we get with loved ones. This festive period why not focus on how you can reconnect with family, friends and colleagues while getting active!

Is there any activity you learnt or got introduced to this year that you want to share? Many people through our Find Your Active activity finder have discovered a new group or activity that has sparked a love for movement! This can range from Nordic walking to dance classes to paddle boarding. If you have been one of these people utilising the activity finder then share your new found love!

Bring your mum along to your dance class. Make sure a friend tags along on your next Nordic walk. Invite a work colleague to your blue water activity and see if they find something new to love too.

Not only can we learn from what we experienced this year but there’s still time to try something new together! Across Essex, there are lots of Essex Country Parks and because of their excellent standards, the Essex County Council country parks have been recognised and awarded Green Flag status for 2023 and 2024!

These green spaces are there to be enjoyed so find one near you or venture further out across the county. You could go for a group trek, a family jog or use the Explore Essex webpage to find one of their festive activities like the Stick Man Structure Trail at Wealds Country Park.

Getting active this festive period doesn’t have to involve venturing out into the cold. You could try some active Christmas games! Get creative and invent some games that get you moving. You could do Christmas musical statues and dance away until the music stops or play Christmas active bingo around the house to see who can complete all the challenges first.

However you find your active this holiday period, make sure you look after your mind and body and also get some rest. Being away from school and work is an opportunity to reset and focus on how you’re feeling. If getting active helps you get back on track then these ideas are perfect inspiration.

Everyone at Active Essex would like to wish you all a peaceful and enjoyable festive break.
