Funded by Active Essex and Essex ActivAte, the Anti Loo Roll Brigade worked with Autism Anglia to set up a SEND holiday club at the Doucecroft School during the summer holidays. They also ran their club over October half term and have a Christmas, Family Experience party day coming up this winter.
During the summer, children and young people who attended the club loved their daily karaoke sessions, which included singing and dancing to their favourite song, ‘This Little Light of Mine’. Peter Dutch, the founder and club owner of the Anti Loo Roll Brigade, had an idea to get the children to record ‘This Little Light of Mine’ as a Christmas single! He spoke with different individuals to secure a local recording studio and publishing deal. He has since appeared on ITV news and various local radio stations for interviews to share the story, and of course the song!
Peter is hoping the single will reach far and wide, allowing the children to say, “I’ve had a song in the charts!”. He’s also wanting the single to raise some much-needed funds for a new activity centre in Stanway, Colchester. This will allow the Anti Loo Roll Brigade to help serve the community with holiday and after school clubs, home school clubs as well as free services such as speech and language therapy, and much more for the local community.
Peter who runs the club told us: “I feel really excited that the children have had opportunity to feel like pop stars for a day! I hope they get charted and can say they’ve had a record in the charts!”
The single will be released on Friday 9th December, and they’re hoping to have some celebrity endorsements back the track.
We couldn’t be more excited and prouder of everyone’s efforts, and we look forward to the song being on everyone’s Christmas playlist!
