Donna Robinson is a key player in the Essex All Together programme and for Sport for Confidence. We award our One in a Million’s to people who are helping us change one million lives by getting them active and Donna encompasses this.
Originally, Donna started at Sport for Confidence as a participant in Boccia and multi-sports but had a love of helping people and saw the benefits of being physically active. She completed the Boccia leadership course and now volunteers as a coach for Sport for Confidence weekly.
Donna said: “Sport is important to me because it has improved my confidence massively. When I was growing up, I always wanted to help and support children like myself.”
By volunteering at local sporting and NHS events, she is striving to encourage as many people as possible to be active. You will often find her helping to deliver presentations and workshops for care providers and helping at many Active Essex events.
Donna’s positivity and fantastic attitude continued during the lockdown period. To encourage people to stay active who may have been shielding or finding it difficult to get outside, Donna produced several VLOGS to help people stay motivated and inspired during the difficult circumstances. Donna is now continuing her VLOGS and is looking forward to getting back to Basildon Sporting Village and helping at Sport for Confidence sessions again soon.
Lyndsey Barrett, Director and Occupational Therapist for Sport for Confidence said: “Donna really is one in a million! Her dedication to her volunteering roles and passion to get involved to help others is to be commended. We are very fortunate that Donna is part of Sport for Confidence and we have seen her confidence in coaching grow and grow.”
