Currently only 4% of the population commute to work via a bike and we want to encourage more people to get on their bike! Cycling to work is a great way to increase your activity level and the physical benefits can improve your health. The hormones produced whilst cycling can also reduce feelings of stress and depression which should help you prepare for the working day and unwind on the way home.

Cycling to work can also reduce the negative effects that cars and buses have on the environment because it’s reducing carbon emissions. Helping the planet whilst improving your health is the perfect reason to explore commuting to work in different ways.

If you enjoy cycling to work then why not expand your time on the bike and look for a local club or group to join that means you can enjoy getting out on the bike, not only as a way to commute but a way to socialise and boost your confidence. Remember when cycling to work to be safe and be visible. To ensure your safety it’s vital that you wear a helmet in case of an accident and wear bright clothing so that you are seen on the road. Wearing dark clothes and cycling without a front and rear light, especially in winter, can be dangerous so investing in lights and visible clothing is important.
