Data and Insights | Active Essex

All 12 LDPs will be collecting data on physical activity and wider social outcomes at regular intervals throughout the life of the pilots to track the impact of the LDPs on the communities that they are working with. Essex baseline data was collected in November and December 2019 and confirmed that inactivity is high (57.3%) in the LDP priority areas and gave some interesting findings around capability, opportunity and motivation that will be further explored through qualitative research in 2020.

The following map depicts wards in Essex of high deprivation within Essex County Council’s priority places. These priority places have been identified as areas of focus under ECC’s new “Levelling Up Essex” strategy.

Wards in IMD Deciles 1-4 (high deprivation) are highlighted on the map below in shades of red. A darker shade of red implies higher level of deprivation (1 – being most deprived) and a lighter shade implies lower level of deprivation (4 – being relatively less deprived).

State of life survey

Following the announcement of the COVID-19 lockdown on 23^rd March 2020, the University of Essex and Jump, working with the Essex Local Delivery Pilot (LDP) and ECC’s Research and Insight team, launched the State of Life survey. The State of Life survey is web-based and distributed via social media channels and is designed to gather key insights on wellbeing across Essex. The survey findings are currently being used to inform decision making around recovery planning by the Essex LDP, ECC, district councils and representatives from the health and voluntary sectors.

Physical activity interactive dashboard

The LDP Physical Activity Dashboard was developed by the Essex Centre for Data & Analytics (ecda) using a wide range of data provided by Sport England. This dashboard allows us to profile Essex communities to identify likely physical activity and inactivity levels, and to identify the possible key drivers of inactivity at LSOA level. This information provides a springboard for further research; actionable insight enabling ELDP and Active Essex to deploy targeted resources to communities most in need; and an evidence-base to inform commissioning decisions, intervention development and implementation.
